We left Nashville on October 6th on our way to Memphis. We passed a turnoff to Natchez Trace (lost of history there, too) and one to Grinder's Switch, home of Minnie Pearl. It really exists!! We saw the turnoff to Shiloh. It was only 50 miles out of the way and, since we are both interested in Civil War history, we decided to detour so we could see it. We were really glad we did. The battle was in Arpil, 1862 and the grounds have excellent markings, monuments and cannons showing were everyone was stationed in those few horrible days. It was quite moving, especially seeing the Shiloh church and the cemetery dating from the 1850's, before the War. On the way to Memphis we stopped in Adamsville for lunch. In case you don't know, this is the home of Sheriff Buford Pusser (Walking Tall fame). We stayed in Memphis that night and planned on visiting Graceland the next day.
